Lucknow: Taking note of road surface slippage on the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway within a fortnight of its inauguration, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated administrative action against officials found negligent in monitoring the project.Deputy general manager of the construction company Vivek Kumar Gupta, engineer Surendra Kumar, who headed the team of independent engineers, and resident engineer Yatendra Kumar, who was also independently monitoring the project on behalf of NHAI, have been removed from the project and barred for the next two years from participating in any project of MoRTH, NHAI, or NHAIDCL.While travelling towards Lucknow from Unnao, the owner of a private vehicle encountered a sudden bump on the expressway on July 26.The affected stretch, located in Behta locality of Unnao, was found to have been damaged due to slippage, NHAI officials said. Although the damaged patch was repaired within 24 hours, a detailed inquiry was ordered to ascertain the cause of the incident on the Rs 4,200-crore project.Poor bonding between pavement layers, the use of inferior-quality bonding agents and adhesives, and moisture infiltration during the construction period are among the common causes of road surface slippage.
