Lucknow: The state health department on Wednesday launched the ‘Stop diarrhoea campaign 2026’ to raise awareness about preventing and treating diarrhoeal diseases among children during the monsoon.Launched at the urban community health centre in Aliganj, the campaign focuses on promoting the timely use of oral rehydration solution (ORS) and zinc, along with safe drinking water, hand hygiene and breastfeeding. An awareness van, Diarrhoea Se Dar Nahi, was flagged off to conduct outreach in urban slums, rural settlements and other vulnerable areas.Dr A K Singh, joint director (RCH), directorate of health and family welfare, said diarrhoea remains one of the leading causes of illness and preventable deaths among children below five years of age despite being both preventable and treatable. “The biggest challenge is not the availability of treatment but lack of awareness. ORS and zinc remain the cornerstone of diarrhoea management,” he said. The campaign also featured a street play on recognising dehydration and the correct use of ORS and Zinc. An ORS and zinc corner was set up at the health centre, while educational material on diarrhoea prevention and treatment was distributed among caregivers.
