LUCKNOW: A CBI court in Lucknow has sentenced a former goods clerk of Dariyapur Junction railway station in Raebareli to four years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 in a bribery case dating back to 2017, senior CBI officials here on Friday.The court convicted Durgesh Bahadur Singh, who was posted as goods clerk at Dariyapur Junction, on July 30, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said in a statement issued on Friday.According to the CBI, the case was registered on October 13, 2017, on the complaint of the director of Lucknow-based R D Cement Industries Pvt Ltd. The complainant alleged that Singh had demanded Rs 60,000 as a bribe for substantially reducing a demurrage charge of Rs 1.26 lakh imposed on the company for failing to unload raw material from a railway rake within the stipulated period.During negotiations, Singh allegedly agreed to reduce the demurrage amount to Rs 37,800 and demanded an additional Rs 7,200 as illegal gratification, the agency said.The CBI subsequently laid a trap and caught Singh red-handed while he was accepting the Rs 7,200 bribe, it said.After completing the investigation, the agency filed a chargesheet against the accused public servant on November 30, 2017.Following the trial, the CBI court convicted Singh and awarded him four years’ imprisonment along with the Rs 10,000 fine.
