Lucknow: A man attempted immolation outside the Indira Nagar police station on Friday, accusing police of assaulting him, coercing him into confessing to a crime and threatening to implicate him in a false case.The police, however, rejected the allegations, saying he was being questioned in connection with a recent robbery case.The man, identified as Harsh Tiwari, alleged that he was repeatedly called to the police station over the past three days for questioning, during which he was beaten and threatened with being shot in the leg if he did not confess to a crime. The video of the man went viral on social media, where he could be heard accusing the policemen.In the video, before attempting self-immolation, Harsh alleged if anything happened to him, three people, including constables Devendra Singh and Ajay Narayan Singh, should be held responsible. The Indira Nagar police said Harsh is a suspect in the July 26 case in which armed robbers had stormed the house of a grocery trader Umesh Chandra, injured him, his wife and daughter before fleeing with cash and valuables. Police said that verification also revealed multiple criminal cases , were registered against Harsh.
