Lucknow: A 36-year-old man from Barabanki with end-stage liver disease caused by chronic hepatitis B has recovered after undergoing a living-donor liver transplant at a city hospital.Abrar Rinku Ali was diagnosed with decompensated chronic liver disease and portal hypertension three months ago after suffering upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Despite treatment, his condition worsened and he was referred to the city for specialised care.Doctors found advanced liver disease during evaluation and recommended a living donor liver transplant. The procedure was carried out using a right lobe graft donated by his sister, with around 53% of her liver transplanted. Both donor and recipient recovered well after the surgery.Director hepato-pancreato-biliary and liver transplant surgery Max Super Speciality Hospital Dr Waliullah Siddiqui, said timely evaluation helped identify liver transplantation as the most suitable treatment option. He said the patient had recovered well, with good graft function, and was showing improvement in his quality of life.
