Lucknow: Jal shakti minister Swatantra Dev Singh on Monday directed officials to resolve all water supply complaints in villages within 24 hours of receiving them. The minister warned officials of strict action if supply remained impacted for an unnecessarily long period.During a review of Jal Jeevan Mission projects on Monday, the minister also directed officials to ensure that roads dug up for pipeline-laying work should be restored immediately after completion of work. He said any complaints regarding delays or poor-quality road restoration would invite strict action against those responsible. He said that any negligence could result in the attachment of officials to the department headquarters.“Visit villages and assess the impact of Jal Jeevan Mission, particularly the reduction in water-borne diseases and the positive changes brought about in the lives of rural residents. Raise awareness about the importance of clean and safe drinking water,” Singh said.Minister also instructed officials to organise ‘jal arpan’ programmes in villages where tap water supply has become operational and to encourage greater public participation by explaining the significance of the initiative. He also directed districts to hold regular ‘jal chaupals’.
