Lucknow: The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is preparing action against illegal commercial buildings in Aliganj that violate land-use norms, following directions from the Supreme Court.An SC-appointed team is expected to visit Lucknow to survey the illegal constructions in Aliganj.The action follows the SC’s hearing in the Loknathan vs state govt of Tamil Nadu case, during which the court sought details of illegal constructions in Lucknow and other major cities. The court also referred to the Jun 22 fire at an illegal commercial complex built on a residential plot in Aliganj’s sector-D, in which several people lost their lives.According to the report submitted by the LDA, 51 commercial buildings constructed in violation of land-use norms on residential plots have been identified in Aliganj. The SC has directed the authority to submit the status of action taken in all these cases.LDA vice-chairperson Prathamesh Kumar said an action plan has been prepared in line with the court’s directions. “The enforcement teams carried out a site inspection on Wednesday to assess the present status of the buildings and estimate the manpower and machinery required for sealing or demolition. A preliminary report is being prepared before further action begins.”
