Lucknow: Dengue cases have started trickling into the city, with 11 infections reported in the first five days of Aug, signalling the seasonal rise that typically accompanies the monsoon.The city reported 15 dengue cases in Jul and health officials said the number of infections could increase as rains create more mosquito-breeding sites. However, no dengue hotspot has been identified so far, with cases remaining scattered across the city.Officials said all dengue patients reported this year had mild illness, with no severe cases or deaths recorded. Common symptoms included fever, headache, body ache, weakness and, in some cases, nausea and vomiting.Health authorities urged residents not to ignore warning signs such as severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding from the gums or nose, blood in vomit or stools and extreme weakness, which may indicate severe dengue and require immediate medical attention.District malaria officer Dr Ritu Srivastava said anti-mosquito measures were being carried out across the city, including surveillance and efforts to eliminate breeding sites.“There is no particular area from where a cluster of cases has been reported. The cases have been sporadic in the city,” she said.She urged residents to prevent water accumulation in coolers, containers, rooftops and other locations where Aedes mosquitoes breed.“People should ensure that there is no accumulation of water, as stagnant water can provide breeding sites for mosquitoes,” she said.
