Lucknow: The fissure in the Daliganj underpass has now widened, commuters said, expressing concern over their safety as vehicles and trains continue to use the stretch daily. The underpass near the convention centre, which links the old city with newer parts of the city, witnesses the movement of over 15,000 vehicles every day. At the same time, trains travelling towards Rohilkhand and other destinations pass over the railway track above nearly 8 times daily. NER PRO said repair work will be taken up shortly. Residents said the issue first surfaced some time ago following heavy rainfall in Sept. What initially appeared as light water leakage has now turned into clearly visible cracks in the roof of the underpass. At present, 1 prominent crack can be seen, while the other is minor. Many times, plaster peeled off as it fell onto vehicles and pedestrians below. In certain areas, portions of plaster fell off, exposing rusted reinforcement bars. Commuters also reported feeling tremors whenever heavy trains pass overhead. “The vibration is quite evident when a train crosses. With the cracks already visible, it feels risky to use this route,” said a Daliganj resident, Sandeep Singh. LMC said the seepage and structural damage were noted. They said the engineering team inspected the site, and communication was initiated with Indian Railways for a detailed structural assessment.
