Lucknow: King George’s Medical University (KGMU) will set up a separate OPD complex on Shahmeena Road to ease congestion caused by the growing patient load at the hospital.Vice-chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand said the proposed facility will house OPDs, diagnostic services, a blood-collection centre and other patient-care facilities. The land of Rajkiya Balika Inter College has been allocated and soon a detailed project report will be created. The existing OPD building will be used for other purposes.The expansion comes as KGMU handles around 10,000 patients daily, while the total daily footfall on the campus can rise to nearly 30,000 people.“The current volume of patients is leading to congestion within the hospital and surrounding areas, making additional infrastructure necessary,” Nityanand said.Besides adding capacity, the university plans to streamline patient movement through digital navigation systems, appointment scheduling, investigation management and queue-management mechanisms. “Patients will get all the department OPDs under one roof and referrals will also be smooth,” she added.KGMU is also working towards round-the-clock diagnostic services and expanding CT scan capacity.Nityanand said the objective was to improve access to advanced medical care for patients from across UP while making hospital services more organised and efficient.
