Lucknow: Stressing the need to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) for patient monitoring and disease screening in medical colleges, experts highlighted that AI will not replace doctors by any means but will assist them, during an academic programme held at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) on Sunday. Dr Siddharth Roy and Hetavi Waghela of department of pediatrics said that hospitals generate massive amounts of medical data daily, which AI can analyse quickly to support timely decisions, improve monitoring, and streamline treatment planning. They stressed that clinical decisions will remain with doctors. Former head of pediatrics, Prof Shally Awasthi, said leading institutions like Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences and Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences will need to integrate such tools to strengthen patient care. “Better screening and monitoring will improve efficiency and outcomes,” she said. Meanwhile, head of pediatrics Prof S N Singh said AI can benefit patients in smaller towns by identifying serious cases early and ensuring timely referral to higher centres. In another event organised by the All-India Difficult Airway Association, speakers said AI can enhance monitoring accuracy and help detect difficult airway cases early, while simulation training can support young doctors. Dr Tanmay Tiwari said AI must work alongside regular medical training to improve healthcare delivery, including in rural areas through decision-support systems and tele-guided expertise.
