Lucknow: A man from Rae Bareli district was allegedly killed by his wife and daughter after he opposed his daughter’s relationship with a man from a different caste, police said. The victim’s skeletal remains were recovered from a canal embankment nearly a month after he went missing. The victim was identified as Chhote Lal Pasi, a resident of Barain Majre Hilalganj village under Harchandpur police station. He had been missing for around a month. His son, Satish, initially approached the police, following which a missing-person report was registered.Investigators said Satish later grew suspicious as the family received no information about his father’s whereabouts. He subsequently informed police that he feared his father had been murdered, prompting a deeper probe into the disappearance.Police said they questioned Chhote Lal’s wife, Keshkali (50) and their daughter, Chaya. During questioning, the two allegedly confessed to killing him and burying his body along the canal embankment.According to the police, the killing was linked to Chaya’s relationship with a youth, Ravi, from the same village. Harchandpur station house officer Praveen Kumar Singh said call detail records and chat histories indicated the relationship had been ongoing for the past three to four months. The SHO added that Chaya’s mother was aware of the relationship and did not object to it.Investigators said Chhote Lal learned about the relationship about two months ago and began reprimanding his wife and daughter. Police alleged he also frequently assaulted them over the issue. Distressed by his behaviour, the mother and daughter allegedly decided to eliminate him.Acting on leads obtained during questioning, police and a forensic team carried out an excavation along the canal embankment late Thursday night. The skeletal remains were recovered and sent for forensic examination. Police said the burial site was in a pit around 50 metres from the family’s house.Maharajganj circle officer Pradeep Kumar said preliminary inquiry had established facts pointing towards murder. He said the wife and daughter were being questioned further to reconstruct the sequence of events and to determine whether anyone else was involved.Satish told police that when he asked his mother about his father’s disappearance earlier, she tried to reassure him and asked him not to worry.
