NEW DELHI: Delhi University has suspended a PhD scholar from its Faculty of Law and barred him from entering the university premises with immediate effect after he allegedly assaulted a professor, university officials said on Monday.The action was taken following an incident at Umang Bhawan at around 10.30 am, according to a notice issued by the university’s Office of the Proctor. The scholar was admitted to the Faculty of Law during the 2024-25 academic session under Phase-II.The university received CCTV footage of the incident, which showed the alleged misconduct.“The incident took place on Monday morning and the student can be seen slapping a professor. A committee has been formed to look into it,” DU Proctor Manoj Kumar Singh told to media.The university notice said, “…it is hereby notified that he is suspended from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, with immediate effect.”It also said the student had been barred from entering any University of Delhi premises with immediate effect under “Ordinance XV-B of the Delhi University Act, 1922”.The university has formed an independent three-member enquiry committee to investigate the alleged misconduct and submit its report.The committee is headed by Rajeev Gupta of the Department of Chemistry. Vipul Singh of the Department of History and Sudha Singh of the Department of Hindi are its other members.According to a separate notice issued by the Office of the Proctor on Monday, the committee has been tasked with investigating the incident and submitting its report.
