Anthropic added a memory import tool to Claude that lets paying users transfer accumulated preferences and context from other AI assistants. The workflow is simple – copy a provided prompt into your current provider’s chat, grab the output, paste it into Claude’s memory settings. It’s an acquisition play dressed up as a convenience feature. The underlying bet is that months of built-up context creates real switching costs, and lowering that barrier might pull users away from ChatGPT or Gemini mid-workflow. OpenAI and Google have both been deepening their own memory and personalization layers recently, which makes the timing feel deliberate. Anthropic is essentially telling users their relationship with another AI is portable.
