Lucknow: Over 800 people were injured, including 300 with serious injuries, during Holi celebrations across the city this year with most incidents linked to drunken driving and speeding.Many suffered head injuries in road accidents, deep facial wounds and fractures while about six are on ventilator support. Hospitals started receiving patients since Tuesday night and the rush continued throughout Holi. Several bikers and car drivers lost control of their vehicles while driving under the influence, injuring themselves and others. Emergency wards at KGMU Trauma Centre, Balrampur Hospital, Civil Hospital, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Lokbandhu Hospital, and Ram Sagar Mishra Hospital, along with private facilities, witnessed long queues of injured patients. At the trauma centre, chief medical superintendent Dr Premraj Singh said 248 patients arrived by afternoon, including 72 road accident victims. Several patients suffered serious head injuries and over 10 suffered fractures. At Balrampur Hospital, CMS Dr Himanshu Chaturvedi said 365 patients reported to the emergency OPD of which 51 were admitted. Twenty-one patients required stitches. According to Lokbandhu Hospital medical superintendent Dr Ajay Shankar Tripathi, 487 patients reached the emergency ward in 24 hours, including 60 injured in Holi-related road accidents. Thirty-seven patients were admitted while others were discharged after primary treatment. At Civil Hospital, 70 patients were treated, of whom 17 were admitted. Meanwhile, emergency services at RMLIMS treated 246 patients with 30 requiring admission. At SGPGI’s Apex Trauma Centre, 74 injured patients were brought in, with over 20 requiring admission. In addition, over 75 patients were admitted at Rani Laxmibai Hospital, Thakurganj Joint Hospital, Bhaurao Deoras Hospital in Mahanagar and Ram Sagar Mishra Hospital in BKT, while over 100 patients were treated in private hospitals.
