Bahraich: A seven-year-old girl was seriously injured after a leopard attacked her in Bajpurwa village of Khairighat area in Bahraich district on Thursday evening. The girl survived after other children present at the spot raised an alarm and tried to drive the animal away. According to reports, Afreen, daughter of Tasavvar, had gone with a few other children to collect grass from fields located a short distance from her home when a leopard attacked her. Hearing Afreen’s screams, the children accompanying her began shouting loudly and attempted to scare the leopard away. They even tried to hit the animal with a khurpa (a small farming tool). Their quick response forced the leopard to leave the girl and flee from the spot. Afreen sustained serious injuries to her head and face in the attack. Family members rushed her to a nearby health centre, where doctors provided primary treatment and then referred her to the district hospital in Bahraich for advanced care. Doctors at the district hospital are currently treating the injured child, and her condition remains critical. Afreen’s uncle Meraj praised the courage of the children who were with her.
