Lucknow: The main accused in Thursday’s firing incident in a Sultanpur village was injured in a police encounter after he allegedly tried to flee custody during a weapon recovery operation on Friday.Police said Deepak Sonkar suffered a bullet injury in his leg and was admitted to a hospital. They said the firing incident took place in Janaurpur village of Sultanpur on Thursday during a dispute between children. The matter soon escalated into violence during which several rounds were fired, injuring two brothers– Mohit Sonkar and Mangal Sonkar. While Mohit died, Mangal was critically injured and undergoing treatment in Lucknow. Police later arrested Deepak. During interrogation, he disclosed the location of the weapon used in the crime. A police team took him to the village to recover the pistol. However, when the accused reached the spot where the weapon was hidden in a thatched structure, he suddenly pulled out the weapon and fired at the team. The police shot back in self-defence injuring Deepak. Additional superintendent of police, Akhand Pratap Singh, said an FIR was registered on the complaint of Mohit’s family against five named accused and several unidentified persons.
