Lucknow: Prerna Canteens, operated by women self-help groups in Uttar Pradesh, has become a medium for enhancing the income of women associated with it.Govt has claimed that over 10,000 women associated with Prerna Canteens became lakhpatis. At present, over 2,100 Prerna Canteens are operational across the state.The canteens were established in the offices of district magistrates, chief development officers, block offices, primary health centres and community health centres. These serve hot and affordable meals to people visiting these offices, including employees, patients and guests. Out of total canteens, 832 were set up at PHCs and CHCs, enabling rural women to achieve greater financial empowerment, said a govt spokesperson. “On average, each woman associated with a canteen earns over Rs 10,000 per month. This improved their standard of living and enabled them to play an important role in strengthening their financial condition,” he said.
