The 98th Academy Awards took a pause during its awards show for the In Memoriam segment to honour several legendary artists and filmmakers who passed away between the 2025 and 2026. While the broadcast only featured a handful of names and highly personalised tributes to Hollywood stars like Rob Reiner, Robert Redford, Robert Duvall, Catherine O’Hara, Diane Keaton, among others. Owing to the long list of stars who passed away this past year, the organisers put out a more detailed list on the Oscars’ official website. In the list, the Oscars honoured notable figures from Indian cinema such as Dharmendra, Manoj Kumar, B. Saroja Devi and Kota Srinivasa Rao.The photos of the Indian film stars featured among the industry veterans whose contributions left a lasting mark on global cinema. Dharmendra, one of Bollywood’s most beloved stars, whose career spanned more than six decades and over 300 films, featured on the list with Manoj Kumar, celebrated for his contribution to films. From the South Indian film industry, legendary actress B. Saroja Devi, who acted in more than 200 films across Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi cinema was also remembered for her remarkable career. She passed away in July 2025 at the age of 87 after reportedly battling age-related ailments. Veteran Telugu actor and former politician Kota Srinivasa Rao was also remembered. He passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 83, following a prolonged illness. Fellow Hollywood star, Eric Dane, who passed away last month was also included in the list with the other 300 names, including actors, directors, producers, and screenwriters who the film world lost over the past year.
