Lucknow: A six-month-old infant died after her mother allegedly threw her into the Sharda Sahayak canal following a dispute with her husband in Sitapur on Sunday, police said.The incident took place in Husain Ganj village under the Sidhauli police station area. The woman, identified as Vandana, reportedly argued with her husband, Vipin, on Saturday afternoon over an unspecified issue.According to police, after the altercation, Vandana left the house carrying their six-month-old daughter, Kavya, and walked towards the Sharda Sahayak canal located on the outskirts of the village. Police said the woman allegedly threw the infant into the canal. Family members and villagers who followed her noticed the incident and immediately jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue the child.A fire brigade team was called to assist in the search operation. The infant was located but was declared dead by doctors at the CHC.Family members claimed that Vandana was suffering from mental health issues for some time. Sidhauli police station Inspector Vijayendra Singh said an FIR was registered against Vandana on the basis of Vipin’s complaint and she has been sent to jail.
