Lucknow: Becoming neither a scientist nor an actor was on his wishlist; it was destiny that got him where he is. Padma Shri Anil Rastogi, senior scientist at Central Drug Research Institute and actor known for his work in theatre and films, spoke about his parallel careers during a felicitation programme organised by Club of Lucknow, on Sunday.Describing how both fields complemented each other in his life, Rastogi said, “Discipline of science goes into theatre, while the expression of theatre is present in science.”Rastogi is third scientist from CDRI to receive Padma Shri. He said the organisation gave him space to continue his association with theatre alongside his scientific work. Describing theatre as his first preference, Rastogi said he stepped away from film assignments on three occasions to return to stage. “As I had no ambition, I never failed,” he said, reflecting on his choices. He also acknowledged role of his family in his journey, noting that his wife continues to help him rehearse his dialogues.Addressing students at the event, Rastogi advised them to remain determined and grateful, adding that theatre remains a field with opportunities for those willing to pursue it seriously.
