JAMMU: A Jammu court on Monday extended till March 23 the police remand of Kamal Singh Jamwal, a 63-year-old arrested for attempting to shoot National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah at a Jammu wedding last week.An SIT produced Jamwal in court and argued that his continued remand was necessary for sustained interrogation about his motives to target the former J&K CM.The resident of Jammu’s Purani Mandi had said immediately after his arrest following the March 11 murder attempt that he had been planning for 20 years to assassinate Farooq. The court allowed the remand extension but told the police to ensure Jamwal’s medical examination every 24 hours. He has been charged under Section 109 of BNS (attempted murder) and Arms Act’s provisions. Jammu cops had initially ruled out any terror angle in the case.
