Lucknow: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a medical officer posted at the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) polyclinic in Uttar Pradesh and a private hospital executive for allegedly accepting a bribe in exchange for extending undue favours to a private healthcare facility empanelled under the scheme.According to the CBI, the case was registered on March 15 against five accused, including the ECHS medical officer, a private company, and three representatives of the private hospital, along with other unidentified persons. The agency alleged that the medical officer entered into a criminal conspiracy with representatives of the private hospital to illegally benefit the institution. The accused public servant allegedly facilitated and extended undue favours to the empanelled private hospital by referring patients to it under the ECHS scheme in return for illegal gratification from the hospital’s representatives. The arrested accused were identified as Major (retd) Dr Ashish Shakya (MBBS), Medical Officer at ECHS Polyclinic in Etah, and Bijendra Singh, a private individual who was working as assistant general manager at the concerned private hospital. During a trap operation conducted by the CBI, officials recovered Rs 3 lakh in bribe money that was allegedly delivered by the hospital’s representative to the medical officer. Following the arrests, CBI teams carried out searches at multiple locations in Noida, Etah, Firozabad and Farrukhabad. The searches reportedly led to the recovery of several incriminating documents and digital devices, which are now being examined as part of the investigation.
