Lucknow: The UP BJP on Monday nominated nearly 2800 party functionaries as corporators across various urban local bodies in the state, a move seen as part of organisational exercise ahead of the next assembly elections. The nominations were made in 17 municipal corporations, 200 nagar palika parishads, and 545 nagar panchayats across UP. Under the exercise, the party nominated 10 corporators in each municipal corporation, while five members were accommodated in every nagar palika parishad. In nagar panchayats, three functionaries each were nominated as corporators. Sources said the matter was pending for a long period, and the decision was taken after consultations within the state leadership headed by state unit president Pankaj Chaudhary. The nominations are expected to strengthen the organisational structure of the party at the grassroots level in urban areas. The move is also being viewed as part of the party’s preparations for the state elections. Sources said accommodating active workers and office-bearers in local bodies aimed to recognise their organisational contributions. This also ensured a stronger political presence in urban governance structures.
