Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday alleged a complete breakdown of law and order in the state and accused BJP govt of patronising criminals.“Law and order has been shot dead in Uttar Pradesh. Criminal elements nurtured by the BJP are now turning against the system itself,” Akhilesh said in a statement. Referring to the recent killing of a former councillor in Gorakhpur, he said the incident reflected the “fearlessness of criminals” and raised concerns about possible political patronage. “Such a brazen murder in the heart of the city shows who may be backing these elements. The public understands,” he said. The former UP CM further alleged that BJP govt has “ruined” Uttar Pradesh as incidents of murder, robbery and other crimes were being reported daily, while women and girls were feeling increasingly unsafe. “Govt’s zero tolerance policy on crime has completely failed,” he said. Akhilesh also accused govt of widespread corruption, alleging irregularities in major infrastructure projects. He cited the recently constructed Green Corridor in Lucknow, claiming that signs of deterioration appeared within days of its inauguration. “The project has begun to show flaws even before its inauguration impact has settled,” he remarked. He referred to alleged irregularities under the Jal Jeevan Mission, including cases of collapsing water tanks, as examples of mismanagement and misuse of public funds. “People of UP have seen through the false promises of the BJP. Voters would bring about a change in the 2027 assembly elections. Under Samajwadi Party leadership, the state would be made crime and corruption-free,” he said.
