One Year at Anthropic From the Inside

Drew Bent shared reflections after a year at Anthropic, and the most interesting detail is structural: every breakout product – Claude Code, MCP, Artifacts – started as a one-or-two-person side project. Roles inside the company are simultaneously becoming more managerial, since everyone directs agents now, and more IC-like, since everyone builds. Work-life balance has reportedly gotten worse across the company even as automation increases, which is a pattern showing up at other frontier labs too. The observation that underestimating a technology’s potential is worse than overestimating it reads like an operating principle, not just a personal take.
