Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh govt on Wednesday said over 1.75 lakh women have been provided govt jobs over the past nine years, alongside a series of welfare and support initiatives.Officials said the push is part of a broader strategy to improve access to education, financial assistance and livelihood opportunities for women. Under flagship schemes, financial support is being extended at multiple stages of a girl child’s life. The Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana provides a cumulative assistance of Rs 25,000 from birth to graduation while the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana offers Rs 1 lakh for marriage. So far, around 5 lakh marriages have been conducted under the scheme. Govt has also made provisions in the budget for Mahila Udyami Scheme to promote women entrepreneurship. In addition, initiatives like Mission Shakti are being implemented to ensure the safety, dignity and self-reliance of women. Officials said over 1.06 crore families are receiving an annual pension of Rs 12,000 for destitute women, elderly and persons with disabilities. In a move aimed at encouraging higher education among girls, govt plans to distribute scooters to meritorious students pursuing graduation and postgraduation.
