Lucknow: Former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday said despite concerted efforts by the BJP to malign the party, the people of the state would bring the Samajwadi Party (SP) back to power in the 2027 Assembly elections.“The BJP was not a political party but a gang of blind followers. It was attempting to create challenges for the SP through the alleged misuse of govt and administrative machinery,’ he said while addressing the “Digital Democracy Dialogue” programme at the party’s state headquarters in Lucknow. He claimed that democracy in the current environment was under a “serious threat”. “Democracy thrives on communication and social harmony. There is a need for dialogue in sustaining democratic values. But citizens are facing growing challenges in their daily lives,” he said. The former CM underlined that a positive political direction could only be achieved through the “PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak)” approach, asserting that any campaign without a clear ideological foundation risked becoming directionless and misleading. Highlighting ideological underpinnings, the SP chief said socialism is rooted in social justice and inclusivity. “Commitment is built through positivity, and ideological movements have historically shaped the direction of society and the nation,” he said. Targeting the BJP-led govts, Akhilesh alleged that there was frustration and disappointment among the public. Calling on party members to remain disciplined, he advised them to maintain simplicity in language and conduct. Referring to his govt’s initiatives, Akhilesh said the distribution of laptops was aimed at promoting social equality and opening new avenues of development and progress for youth. In contrast, he alleged that the BJP was using digital platforms for its own interests and spreading misinformation. He cautioned party workers to remain vigilant against BJP’s “disinformation campaigns” and reiterated that the party was prepared to face all political challenges.
