Lucknow: Lucknow University’s department of computer science will introduce specialised courses in artificial intelligence (AI) and cyber security from the 2026-27 academic session.According to LU officials, the new programmes include BCA–AI and BCA–cyber security with 60 seats each, MSc in AI/cyber security, and a PG Diploma in cyber security with 30 seats each. For the undergraduate programmes, students must have either mathematics or computer science in class 12. For the postgraduate programmes, applicants need to hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or any closely related discipline. This ensures that students already have a foundation in computing before moving on to advanced concepts. The PG diploma in cyber security is more flexible. It is open to graduates from any stream, provided they have a basic understanding of computers. This means even students without a technical degree can apply. The curriculum has been designed to align with industry demands. Students will be trained in machine learning, data analytics, neural networks, ethical hacking, network security, cryptography and digital forensics. Emphasis will also be laid on practical exposure through labs, real-world projects and internships. Vice-chancellor Prof JP Saini has directed that classes of these courses be run in the ONGC building on the main campus.
