Lucknow: The state cabinet on Monday approved Rs 1,435.25 crore cost for an International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre to be built at the Defence Expo Ground in Sector 15 of Vrindavan Yojana. The proposal was cleared in a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Yogi Adityanath. Once completed, the facility is expected to add to the city’s exhibition infrastructure and provide a dedicated venue for large conventions and govt events. The proposed facility will include a convention hall with a seating capacity of around 10,000 people and a separate auditorium with a capacity of about 2,500. The design also makes provision for multiple smaller halls to host meetings, exhibitions and conferences simultaneously. Authorities said the centre will have parking facilities, security systems and arrangements for crowd management in line with safety norms. Catering infrastructure to serve food to around 5,000 people at a time has also been planned. The venue is being planned to host large exhibitions, trade fairs and defence-related events. Infrastructure is also proposed for displaying heavy equipment, including military platforms and industrial machinery, in line with requirements of events such as defence expos. Officials said the project is part of efforts to strengthen Lucknow’s capacity to host national and international events. The presence of hotel infrastructure in and around Vrindavan Yojana, including both premium and budget accommodation, is expected to support visitor inflow during major events.
