NEW DELHI: Govt will roll out biometric authentication through Aadhaar to transfer compensation for land acquisition in highway projects, aiming to ensure actual landowners receive the amount directly in their bank accounts. The amount will be transferred instantly after OTP-based biometric authentication is complete.Highways agencies under the road transport ministry are carrying out a pilot in five states – Bihar, UP, MP, Rajasthan, and Karnataka.The largest share of land acquisition for public purposes is done for highway development. Around Rs 19,800 crore was disbursed this financial year for acquisition of 10,100 hectares for highway development, people in the know said.
