Lucknow: Scores of nurses, technicians, resident doctors, transplant coordinators and supporting staff , who have played a significant role in successful organ retrieval for various transplant procedures undertaken by SGPGI, were felicitated at an official programme organised by department of surgical gastroenterology on Wednesday.The programme underscored importance of complex, multidisciplinary coordination and extensive step-wise processes that go into successful harvest of organs from a brain dead donor. Liver transplant in charge, Prof Supriya Sharma said the task cannot be achieved without collective efforts of the stakeholding departments and people involved.Head, surgical gastroenterology, King Georges Medical University, Prof Abhijit Chandra acknowledged that collaborative efforts strengthened transplant activities significantly in the city. He appreciated SGPGIMS’s prompt and selfless initiative in retrieving liver at trauma center and sharing it with KGMU for benefit of a recipient, a gesture that was deeply valued and commendable.SGPGI director Prof R K Dhiman, dean Prof Shaleen Kumar and head of surgical gastroentrology Prof Anu Behari also spoke on the occasion.
