Lucknow: Marking beginning of the Holy Week, Palm Sunday was observed with devotion and solemnity across city churches on Sunday. Devotees dressed in green clothes gathered in large numbers to commemorate the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, where he was greeted by people with palm leaf branches and shouts of ‘Hosanna’, symbolising victory and peace.“It also signifies the humility of Jesus Christ as he rode on a donkey and palm branches represent victory, peace and eternal life reminding us of Christ’s ultimate sacrifice and triumph over death,” said Parag Wesley, Priest in charge of Assembly of Beleivers Church, Daliganj.Devotees carried palm leaves, symbolising peace and victory. Hymns filled the air as priests led the faithful in readings and sermons reflecting on faith, humility and sacrifice. At the church in Daliganj, worshippers assembled since early morning for the blessing of palms, followed by a procession around the church premises. “Palm Sunday reminds us to welcome goodness and compassion into our lives,” said Mitchell David, a devotee attending the service. Hymns such as ‘Hosanna the highest’ and ‘Blessed is he who comes while waving palm leaves’ were sung. Devotees exchanged green goodies and green refreshments were served to the devotees, such as grapes, green beverages and green tea cakes.Similar scenes were witnessed at other churches across Lucknow, including Assembly of Beleivers Church, Aliganj, where families participated in prayers. Hymns like ‘Dekh tera raja aata hai’ were sung by a 25-member choir.Palm Sunday message was shared by Senior Priest in charge Morris Kumar, who said, “We should follow the path and practise lessons given by Jesus Christ to guide us through life so that we are never misguided.” He also highlighted the message of unity and peace, urging people to carry forward teachings of love and kindness in their daily lives. In the end, kids presented a skit depicting the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.At All Saints Garrison Church, Gomtinagar, a procession was carried out where church members walked around carrying palm leaves in their hands. Priest in charge of the church Abhay Soans shed light on the sublime life of Christ and said, “Jesus Christ devoted his life to teach and show the right path to people and gave his life for our sins.”
