Following consent from family members, she was admitted and underwent DBS surgery on March 25 by the neurosurgery team.Doctors said the patient has shown encouraging improvement after the surgery and is expected to see further gains in her quality of life.Prof BK Ojha, head of the neurosurgery department at KGMU, said, “Parkinson’s usually affects people above 60 years of age, but we are increasingly seeing younger patients. DBS is an advanced procedure in which electrodes are implanted in specific brain regions and connected to a pacemaker-like device that sends mild electrical impulses to regulate abnormal brain activity. It is widely used for Parkinson’s disease, dystonia and other movement disorders.“The surgical team included Dr Rajesh Verma, Dr Hardeep Singh Malhotra, Dr Somil Jaiswal, Dr Shweta Pandey and Dr Avadhesh Yadav, among others.
