Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court has directed govt authorities to consider installing CCTV cameras around prominent schools in the city for better traffic management when they get over.The order was passed by a bench of Justice Alok Mathur and Justice Brijraj Singh on a public interest litigation filed by Gomti River Bank residents. In course of hearing, the court on previous occasions had issued several directions regarding the relief from traffic jams caused by schools during opening and closing hours.In compliance of the earlier order, the state presented compliance report regarding performance of marshals deployed at 18 schools. It shared that marshals in some schools were effective in controlling traffic, though the performance of marshals in many schools is not satisfactory. DCP, traffic, Raveena Tyagi, who was present in the hearing, informed the court that major intersections and roads are being monitored through the smart city control room. Similarly, installing CCTV cameras around schools could also improve traffic control.The court directed the additional advocate general to discuss this proposal in detail with officials and school managements concerned. It was also revealed during the hearing that govt had taken necessary steps to reduce traffic congestion at a prominent girls’ school in Mall Avenue area.The next hearing will be on April 28.
