Lucknow: The Lucknow Police carried out a three-day special checking campaign against two-wheelers across the city from April 3 to 5 resulting in 5,410 challans and seizure of 293 vehicles for traffic violations. A total of 18,649 vehicles were checked across all five zones—western, central, northern, eastern, and southern. Police set up barricades and conducted checking in three shifts—morning (7–9 am), afternoon (12–2 pm), and night (9–11 pm)—covering locations like Kaiserbagh, Hussainganj, Nakkhas, Atal Chowk, Telibagh, 1090 Chauraha, IT Chauraha, Nishatganj Crossing and Awadh Chauraha. Action was taken against violations such as riding without helmets, use of modified silencers, triple riding, speeding, performing stunts, driving on the wrong side, and operating vehicles without valid documents or number plates. Officials said cops also carried out awareness drives. Police appealed to the public to follow traffic rules, avoid mobile phone use while driving and ensure safe riding practices. Police commissioner Amarendra Kumar Sengar said the drive was part of a long-term commitment to reduce road accidents and save lives, adding that such strict enforcement drives will continue in the future to ensure safer roads across the city.
