Anthropic cut off Claude Pro and Max subscribers from using flat-rate plans with OpenClaw and other third-party agent frameworks, forcing users onto pay-as-you-go API pricing – $3/$15 per million tokens for Sonnet 4.6, $15/$75 for Opus 4.6. Some users face cost increases up to 50x their previous monthly spend. A one-time credit equal to one month’s plan cost is available until April 17, and pre-purchased usage bundles get up to 30% off, but the economics change fundamentally for anyone running Claude through external harnesses. The timing is hard to separate from the Claude Code source leak and the rapid rise of claw-code – Anthropic is drawing a clear line between its own product surface and third-party tools consuming its compute at subscription rates never designed for agentic workloads.
