Lucknow: BJP MLA Rajeshwar Singh on Tuesday criticised Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for his recent remark in which he compared the BJP and the RSS with a “poisonous snake”, and said that the statement reflects the Congress’s long-standing politics of appeasement and division. In a post on X, Singh said the remark was “not a slip” but indicative of a deeper political approach. He accused the Congress of pursuing policies that prioritised vote-bank considerations over uniform governance.Referring to the Shah Bano case, he alleged that the Congress govt overturned the Supreme Court’s decision to appease a section of voters. He also cited concerns related to the Waqf Act, claiming it enabled extensive land control with limited accountability.Singh mentioned the draft Communal Violence Bill of 2011 and criticised the party’s opposition to the Uniform Civil Code, alleging that such positions contributed to “selective secularism”.“When politics is built on appeasement, language inevitably becomes toxic,” Singh said, adding that India has moved towards “development, equality before law and nationalism”.There was no immediate response from the Congress to Singh’s remarks.
