Israeli ambassador to India Reuven Azar on Thursday expressed distrust in Pakistan, calling it a country that “sponsors terrorism” ahead of the US-Iran peace talks in Islamabad.“We don’t trust Pakistan as it sponsors terrorism; relying on our American friends to address situation,” he said.Pakistan is set to host crucial in-person talks between the United States and Iran on Friday, aimed at reinforcing a fragile ceasefire and preventing further escalation in West Asia. Both sides agreed on Wednesday to a two-week conditional truce, followed by direct discussions in Islamabad to resolve differences and work toward a lasting peace. Tehran has signalled that negotiations will proceed on the basis of its proposed 10-point plan, which calls for measures such as sanctions relief, assurances against future attacks, and arrangements related to the Strait of Hormuz. Despite expressing openness to peace, deep mistrust continues between the United States and Iran, heightened by concerns over ceasefire violations in Lebanon and the fact that Tehran was engaged in talks when the US and Israel launched strikes on April 28.
