KOLKATA: The RG Kar rape-murder victim’s mother, a BJP candidate in West Bengal, once again used her saree to convey a message – this time wearing one inscribed with ‘Shaktirupena Sangsthita (embodiment of strength)’ – as she filed her nomination Thursday. She had earlier drawn attention by campaigning in a saree imprinted with the slogan “Merudanda Bikri Nei (My spine is not for sale)”. She was accompanied by former Union minister Smriti Irani and Tripura ex-CM Biplab Deb. Before submitting her nomination, she visited a Shiva-Kali temple with her husband and local BJP functionaries and supporters. A rally was then taken out, with BJP workers raising “We want justice” slogans as she reiterated her call to oust the TMC govt. Addressing a gathering, Irani said, “This mother is not just a BJP candidate; she represents every woman in Bengal. Under her leadership, Bengal will get justice.” According to the affidavit, the total value of her movable assets – including several bank fixed deposits, savings accounts and jewellery – is Rs 19 lakh. Among these, she owns a car worth Rs 8 lakh, jointly with her husband. The total value of her husband’s movable assets stands at Rs 36 lakh.
