Lucknow: The death of a 65-year-old woman in Ibrahim Ganj village on Mohan Road under Kakori took a grim turn, with her son accusing his wife and nephew of poisoning her. Police registered a murder case and initiated the process to exhume the body for a post-mortem.Complainant Manoj Rawat alleged that his wife, Shalini, mixed a toxic substance in a roti served to his mother, Shanti Devi, on April 5. Soon after dinner, the elderly woman’s condition worsened and she began vomiting. Manoj rushed her to a local doctor and later to clinics in Junabganj and Daroga Khera, where she was declared dead. The family buried her on April 6.Manoj further alleged that Shalini was in a relationship with his nephew, Karan, a resident of Unnao, and that the duo plotted to eliminate family members one by one to avoid suspicion and gain control of the property. Police said Shalini allegedly admitted that the plan began with poisoning her mother-in-law.An FIR was lodged against Shalini and Karan. Station House Officer Satish Chand Rathore said Shalini was detained, while efforts are on to arrest Karan. Police are seeking the district magistrate’s permission to exhume the body to ascertain the exact cause of death.
