Lucknow: Giving autonomy to state-run schools to formulate their own timetable, the basic education department has come up with new guidelines considering the availability of teachers and the completion of the curriculum within the stipulated timeframe. As per the directives, primary schools must allocate one period daily for language and mathematics. In upper primary/composite schools, one period must be allocated for mathematics, English and science.Director general of school education (DGSE) Monika Rani has asked school heads to formulate a class-wise and subject-wise timetable for teaching and learning activities. To enhance the effectiveness of teaching in classes 6-8, schools have been asked to allocate one 40-minute period per week for the utilisation of digital resources provided by ‘Khan Academy’.During each period, teachers will conduct a revision of the lessons taught on previous days. Subsequently, classroom instruction/activities will be conducted, and thereafter, the lesson points will be consolidated. Also, 30 minutes will be allocated for the distribution of the PM Poshan (formerly mid-day meal).Rani asked schools to complete class-wise and subject-wise curriculum on a monthly basis. The head teacher shall be responsible for ensuring strict adherence to the timetable, Rani said.
