MALDA: The NIA has detained Congress’ Mothabari candidate Sayem Choudhury, gram panchayat member Golam Rabbani, and two others for questioning in connection with the April 1 violence in Mothabari, where seven judicial officers were confined for eight hours at the Kaliachak-II block office in Bengal’s Malda, reports Subhro Maitra. Sources said Choudhury and Rabbani were among the crowd that gathered outside the office that morning. Rabbani, an ISF panchayat member, was reportedly seen addressing villagers, mostly women whose names had been deleted from the electoral roll. NIA, which took over the probe following a Supreme Court order, has already taken custody of 50 people earlier arrested by police.
