Lucknow: The UP Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board on Wednesday organised a mass marriage ceremony under the Kanya Vivah Sahayata Yojana, facilitating the weddings of 187 couples from six districts of Lucknow division.The event, held at Awadh Shilpgram in Lucknow, included couples from Lucknow, Unnao, Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Raebareli and Hardoi. The beneficiaries comprised 176 Hindu and 11 Muslim couples.State labour and employment minister Anil Rajbhar said that the state govt was committed to the welfare of workers and their families.He said the scheme was emerging as an effective tool for providing economic and social security to labour households, while also ensuring dignity and community support for beneficiaries.Each newly married couple received financial assistance of Rs85,000 under the scheme. Certificates sanctioning the aid were distributed at the conclusion of the programme.The ceremony also featured cultural performances by artistes from Ambedkar Nagar, who presented traditional wedding songs. Representatives of BJP Sarojininagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh also distributed clothes and a token gift of Rs501 to the couples.Board secretary Pooja Yadav said the schemes were aimed at strengthening social security for workers and their dependents, adding that similar initiatives would be expanded further.
