New Delhi: Supreme Court on Friday refused Congress neta Pawan Khera’s plea for interim protection from arrest till Tuesday and asked him to seek anticipatory bail from the court in Assam, where an FIR against him has been filed by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife. A bench of Justices J K Maheshwari and A S Chandukar refused to tinker with its order passed on Wednesday when it had stayed the Telangana HC order of granting him transit anticipatory bail. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Khera, said he was ready to move the court in Assam but pleaded for protection for five days as the petition can be filed only on Monday. But the bench turned down the plea, saying that he can file a petition on Friday or Saturday, and he can request an urgent hearing even if the court concerned is not working. “…We again make it clear that upon filing an application seeking anticipatory bail by Respondent No. 1 (Khera), the court deciding such bail application shall not be adversely influenced by any observations made in the order of this Court dated April 15 staying the transit bail...,” the bench said.
