David Harbour will soon be back in uniform. The ‘Stranger Things’ star has officially joined the cast of the upcoming film ‘John Rambo’. As per the latest reports, Harbour will join the cast of the Jalmari Helander directorial in a key role. The Hollywood Reporter states that the actor will take on the role of Major Trautman, Rambo’s commanding officer, in the origin story exploring the action hero’s early life. The story will allegedly depict Rambo as a soldier fighting in the jungle, years before he becomes the reclusive wanderer known to fans.In the original ‘Rambo’ trilogy released in the 1980s, Major Trautman was portrayed by the late Richard Crenna, serving as a mentor figure and one of the few stabilising influences in Rambo’s life.The film stars Noah Centineo as a young John Rambo, charting the character’s journey before the events of ‘First Blood’, the Sylvester Stallone-led film that launched the hit box office franchise. Harbour’s casting comes amid a busy period for the actor, who most recently wrapped up the ‘Stranger Things’ series. He most recently won praise for his performance as Floyd Smernitch in the limited series ‘DTF St. Louis’. He also has several high-profile projects in post-production, including the upcoming box office blockbuster ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ which will see him reprise the role of the Red Guardian as part of the New Avengers. As per reports, the film will see his character join a long list of MCU stars as they face off against Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Victor Von Doom. He will also be seen in ‘Violent Night 2’ and ‘Evil Genius’, both expected to release later this year.Stallone, who originated the role of Rambo, is attached to the film as an executive producer alongside Russo Brothers, Trevor Short, and Bonfire Legend’s Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk.John Rambo is set to expand the mythology of the beloved action franchise by revisiting the character’s formative years.
