JAISALMER: Sensation spread in the Mohangarh police station area of Jaisalmer on Saturday morning after the bodies of an elderly Pakistani-origin displaced couple were found under suspicious circumstances in their home while they were asleep. Prima facie, both appear to have been strangled to death. Silver anklets worn by the woman are missing, raising suspicion that the couple was murdered in a robbery attempt. The deceased have been identified as Lakharam Bhil (80), son of Pahladram, and his wife Reshma Bhil (75), residents of Mohangarh. The elderly couple had no children and lived alone. Belonging to the Bhil community, they had migrated around 20 years ago from Rahim Yar Khan district in Pakistan and had recently been granted Indian citizenship. On receiving information, police reached the spot and shifted the bodies to the mortuary. After postmortem, the bodies were handed over to relatives. Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shivhare said that on Saturday morning, Lakharam’s nephew Chandaram (his sister’s son) came to visit them. He was shocked to see the bodies and immediately informed villagers. The nephew found the husband’s body lying in the courtyard, while the wife’s body was inside a room. On receiving the information, Mohangarh SHO Baburam Delu reached the spot with a police team. During preliminary investigation, it was found that Reshma’s silver anklets were missing, and some footprints were also seen around the house. SP Shivhare stated that both bodies were found inside the house. No visible injury marks were found during the initial examination. A medical board is conducting the postmortem, and the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the report is received. Police are investigating the case from all angles. SHO Baburam Delu said that family members informed police about the missing anklets of the elderly woman. An FSL team has been called for further investigation. The couple lived in a Bhil settlement behind Navodaya Vidyalaya in Mohangarh. They had migrated from Pakistan nearly two decades ago and were recently granted Indian citizenship.
