LUCKNOW: After Hazratganj and IGP crossing, Lucknow’s U-turn traffic model has now been rolled out for the Charbagh Railway Station road to tackle chronic traffic congestion.Under the revised initiative, vehicles from Alambagh heading towards Charbagh will no longer turn right at Ravindralaya Tiraha. They must go straight towards KKC, take a U-turn, and then return to take a left towards Charbagh. Similarly, vehicles exiting Charbagh will be diverted left at Ravindralaya Tiraha, proceed till Gupta Tiraha, take a U-turn, and then move towards their destinations. The Charbagh belt, a high-pressure zone due to the railway station and adjoining metro connectivity, witnesses relentless traffic through the day.Officials say the new plan does away with direct right turns at key junctions, and instead forces vehicles into a loop of designated U-turns cutting down conflict points that typically trigger jams. The idea, traffic officials say, is simple, keep vehicles moving, not crossing. The Charbagh rollout is part of a wider city strategy that is gradually reshaping traffic movement at major intersections. “Around 10 crossings are under this system—some are under trial while others have stabilised,” said Raveena Tyagi, DCP Traffic.
