Lucknow: Taking serious note of worsening traffic congestion from polytechnic crossing to Kisan Path, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has directed senior police and municipal officials to appear before it after conducting a detailed inspection of the affected stretch.Hearing a PIL, a division bench of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Manjive Shukla observed that the problem of traffic snarls from polytechnic crossing to Kisan Path has persisted for years, causing hardship to commuters, with no effective solution in sight. The court has summoned the deputy commissioner of police (traffic), DCP (east) and a gazetted officer from the Lucknow Municipal Corporation to remain present on the next date of hearing. The bench directed the officers to first carry out a ground-level inspection of the entire route and identify bottlenecks and possible remedies.Expressing concern that multiple PILs on the issue have been heard over time without tangible results, the court indicated that accountability would be fixed if authorities fail to provide a workable plan. The matter has been tagged with a pending PIL of 2017 and is scheduled for further hearing on May 1, when the officers are directed to submit a comprehensive report outlining corrective measures. The PIL highlights daily commuting challenges faced by residents due to traffic jams, poor road management and lack of coordinated action among civic agencies.
