Lucknow: Under the ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ that began on Apr 1, around 8.7 lakh students have secured admission in the state-run schools across Uttar Pradesh for the 2026–27 academic session, the education department said on Tuesday.Of the 8.7 lakh enrollment, the maximum number of admissions have been done in Class I and Class VI. In Class I, 5.3 lakh fresh admissions have been done in a time span of 20 days. In Class VI, a total of 2.7 lakh enrolments has been done so far.Data shows that enrolment in other classes is also progressing steadily, with 28,571 enrolments in Class II, 17,686 in Class III, 10,772 in Class IV, 8,418 in Class V, 6,513 in Class VII, and 3,302 in Class VIII.According to officials, 34 lakh new enrolments were done in the previous academic session, 2025-26. This year, the numbers are expected to rise as the campaign will continue until July 15. High enrolments are the result of an effective strategy and strong ground level implementation of the campaign, said a govt spokesperson. He added that coordinated and strengthened efforts are being made at all levels, from departmental officials to teachers, to further accelerate enrolment in the coming phases.
